My work and tools

With a decade of experience in Web Project Management, I’ve honed my expertise in orchestrating the planning, execution, and timely delivery of web development projects. Ensuring successful outcomes within budget constraints has been a cornerstone of my role.

In my current position, we leverage Jira as our primary project management software. Having previously worked with Trello and Asana, I’ve gained a versatile proficiency in various tools. Google Drive serves as our collaborative hub, with dedicated folders for each project housing all pertinent reports.

When it comes to prototyping and design, our team relies on the dynamic duo of Photoshop and Figma. In response to the shift towards remote work during the COVID-19 pandemic, we seamlessly integrated Clockify for streamlined time tracking. Meanwhile, GitHub remains our go-to platform for version control, enabling developers to maintain meticulous records of their progress.

This comprehensive toolkit has been instrumental in not only meeting but consistently exceeding project milestones and client expectations throughout my tenure.

Digital Tools for Project Management

Miro

I am using for brainstorming, visualizing project workflows, creating mind maps, and conducting virtual workshops. It’s especially useful for remote teams to collaborate in real-time on visual tasks. Below is a screenshot of my Miro dashboard I used for one of the modules in my Master’s final project

WhatsApp

We use WhatsApp heavily in day to day activities among colleagues as well as clients. When a project is handed over to project management team, the first thing we do is create a group chat with all the stakeholders to keep everyone updated. It’s a convenient tool for urgent matters and informal discussions. However, it’s important to ensure that professional boundaries are maintained.

Asana

Asana is a task and project management tool. A project manager can use it to assign tasks, set deadlines, track progress, and communicate with team members about specific tasks. It helps in keeping everyone organized and aligned with project goals. We sometimes add clients also to keep track and to assign their tasks so everyone is clear on the requirements and deadlines.

Slack

Slack is used to communication among project members. It’s particularly useful for real-time messaging, creating channels for specific topics, and integrating with other tools and services. It fosters quick and efficient communication within a team.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a professional networking platform. I use it to build a professional network, connect with industry peers, stay updated on industry trends, and recruit new talent. It’s a valuable resource for career development and expanding professional horizons. You can e-meet me at https://www.linkedin.com/in/wasanatennakoon/

Review of Social Media

Social media platforms offer a plenty of advantages for me and any project manager. Firstly, they serve as dynamic hubs for networking and professional development. Platforms like LinkedIn provide opportunities to connect with industry peers, learn from experts, and stay abreast of the latest trends in project management. This not only fosters professional growth but also opens avenues for potential collaborations and partnerships.

Additionally, social media is an invaluable source of knowledge sharing, particularly within the project management field. It acts as a virtual library, where professionals can access a wide range of information, articles, and insights related to best practices, innovative methodologies, and emerging trends. This wealth of knowledge can be instrumental in making informed decisions and optimizing project management strategies.

Despite their benefits, social media platforms can also present some challenges for project managers. One prominent concern is the potential for distraction and reduced productivity. The constant influx of notifications and the allure of scrolling through feeds can divert focus from crucial project tasks, leading to delays and decreased overall efficiency.

Privacy concerns also loom as a significant issue. Sharing sensitive project information on public platforms can pose security risks. It’s imperative for project managers to exercise caution and implement stringent privacy settings to safeguard confidential data. This involves a balance between utilizing social media for professional purposes while being mindful of the information shared.

Self Evaluation

I am really grateful to be working in a time when technology is so advanced. This means we have great tools that make our everyday work much easier. I have been careful in choosing and using digital tools for each project. I make sure they match what we need to do. I look at what the project requires and what we want to achieve. Then, I pick tools that help us talk, work together, and do things more efficiently.

I also make sure that important information is kept safe and private. I am very careful with it, and I set up the right settings to protect it. This makes everyone involved feel confident that our project data is secure.

In conclusion, I am sure I can use digital tools and social media well to run projects successfully. I am always trying to get better, and I am thankful for this assignment that I got a chance to rethink of the technology and its importance!
